The Provincial Directorate of Sports of Ciego de Ávila was created with the new administrative political division of the country, on January 1st, 1976, being its first provincial director Sergio Gutiérrez Perdomo. Then they continued with the task: Jesús Núñez Echemendia, Sergio Ríos Cruz, Francisco Silva Herrera, Luis Alberto Pérez Olivares, Omar Venegas Echemendia and currently Leonardo Rodríguez Sánchez.

The Collaboration in the province sets guidelines since 2001, with a minimum representation of our sports trainers in Venezuela in the agreement modality. Reaching its maximum splendor in 2003, our internationalist help, the brother town of Venezuela, with the Beginning of the “Barrio Adentro Deportivo” Project, So far our professionals and technicians arrived, in order to contribute to raising the quality of life of Venezuelans, quality services contributed to that purpose (therapeutic physical culture, rehabilitation, recreation, chess, physical education in schools, community sports, among others). Around 1900 companions fulfilled the honorable mission of being internationalists.

The provision of technical assistance services linked to our sector in the province has left traces in terms of results in several countries (Guatemala, Seychelles, Ecuador, Mexico, Haiti, Peru, Thailand, Barbados, Dominican Republic, Santa Lucia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Suriname, Kuwait, Belize and El Salvador).
